NEW DELHI: In a move to drive rapid expansion and brand presence in the country, Motorola today announced that its C115 handset will now have ‘Made in India’ label, which is the first mobile set of the company to get this tag.

The company’s claim of hot-selling and hugely popular mobile handset C115 with the label of ‘Made in India’ will be available in India by mid-December this year.

Corporate vice-president for the High Growth Markets Operation, Mobile devices Motorola, Inc. Allen Burnes said that the compact and stylish C115 handset is designed for mass-market users and features outstanding battery life and compelling personalization tools.

“Assembling in India is the first step in a multi-phase manufacturing strategy being deployed by Motorola in India. After the launch it is clear that we are here to be a major player,” Burnes said.

Coinciding with the launch of the made in India mobile set C115, the company unveiled the newest MOTO ‘must have’, ultra-slim and ultra-chic Motorola L6 mobile handset. Burnes said that the L6 handset has been unveiled in India for the first time targeting overwhelming response from the customers. “From our high-end such as new Motorola L6 and our best-selling RAZR, to our hugely popular C115, Motorola is helping connect the unconnected,” Burnes added.

He said that the strategic alliance with Bharti Teletech and the launch of its new L6 handset come as Motorola reinvigorates its presence in India. He said that in order to meet the competition the company has increased its investment for its Bangalore-based global software and hardware design and development hub. It has also enhanced its employment of 3,000 software engineers in Bangalore and Hyderabad, by relocating the senior leadership team and headquarters offices for its High Growth Markets operation in Delhi.

Following its launch in India, the L6 handset will roll out in other markets in due course of time. However, the handset is on sale in India starting from today. Burnes announced that three other latest sleek models with coloured screen – C139, C257 and C261 would also be introduced in India in the next few weeks. He said that they have chosen India as the place for world premier of its L6 handset today as India is the first and the best choice in mobility. Speaking about the Motorola CDMA handsets he said that they are in talks with the service providers.
