SAP R/3 for smooth operational processes

BANGALORE: Satyam Computer Services, Ltd., a global consulting and information technology services company, announced that it has helped SMS Demag Pvt., Ltd. roll out three key SAP R/3 modules: Finance and Controlling (FICO), Materials Management (MM), and Project Systems (PS). The rollout took place in just six weeks, an extremely brief timeframe for such an ambitious project. It is already enabling SMS Demag to integrate its data and systems, and enjoy the benefits a more centralized enterprise provides.

These benefits include accommodation of a broad range of reporting needs enabled by the robust system’s flexibility. For example, SMS Demag files are now updated automatically and continuously—information can be processed in real time—so reports reflect the most current data. As such, extensive diagnostic capabilities identify problems, enabling intervention before they become serious or costly.

The FICO module includes streamlined month-end processing procedures, which expedite closings, and automatic journal entries handle a variety of prorates. Additionally, its AP functionality automates the writing of checks and claims schedules, and then updates SMS Demag’s systems. Additionally, Satyam consultants have developed user-specific programs that enable SMS Demag to file statutory returns like sales tax/service tax/income tax returns in an accurate and timely manner.

The Materials Management module integrates purchase-related activities with project and finance functions, leading to timely equipment supplies. This capability is critical for a project-based company like SMS Demag, which offers turnkey solutions.

The Project Systems module will help SMS Demag users “talk to” their applications more easily, an important productivity enhancement. Application prototyping is facilitated, too. Other benefits include an enhanced help function; online training; simplified design and modification of display panels; and considerably less expensive operation.

“We are delighted to have worked with an extraordinary organization like SMS Demag on this successful, landmark implementation,” said Mr. Virender Aggarwal, director and senior vice president of Satyam’s Asia Pacific and MEIA Operations. “SMS Demag’s leadership in the region is due largely to its commitment to customer and employee satisfaction, which is evident in its IT adoption processes. Now that the solution has gone live, our association with SMS Demag has been strengthened, and we are very optimistic about our growing relationship globally.”

“We are very pleased with Satyam’s ability to marshal its extensive SAP experience and implement these critical SAP R/3 modules so quickly,” said V.J. Rao, CIO, SMS Demag, India Operations. “At SMS Demag, we recognize that change is necessary for progress. However, by working so hard to complete the project rapidly, Satyam has helped us take an important step toward managing that change.”

“We are also grateful to Satyam because today, we are far better prepared to manage marketplace demands. We
can respond to our customers and suppliers more efficiently, and we have a clearer idea of their preferences. Perhaps most importantly, Satyam has helped us keep our costs as low as possible, which is integral to our success.”
