HYDERABAD: When Andhra Paper Mills embarked on a strategy to transform its pulp and paper production into elemental chlorine free grade, it also envisaged a parallel plan to enhance the operational controls.
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) was the only it could enrich its data management system. The idea to embracing ERP was mooted in November, the course of action was initiated in January and finally this month saw the company set up mySAP.
“It will integrate all our departments and will also help us in effective data flow. This will streamline our distribution,'' says Shreeyash Bangar, vice-president (Corporate Planning and Business Development), Andhra Paper Mills.
The development was part of the Rs 635 crore expansion plans undertook by the company, which has its corporate headquarter in Secunderabad.
The host server is located at Rajahmundry, where it has a manufacturing unit. It has been interconnected to the company's other unit in Kadiam along with all the plants and sales offices.
Wipro Infotech worked as the implementation partner of mySAP 5 for Andhra Paper Mills. To begin with the company has installed mySAP PP, MM, SD, FI and CO.
“We also plan to install mySAP in our HR, Plant maintenance and Business Intelligence modules in the next three months,'' says D Deb, head of IT, Andhra Paper Mills.
During the installation period, Wipro Infotech professionals trained a core team. The team passed on the knowledge to the champion users who comprised of one member from each department. The champion users eventually tutored the end users.
“Wipro Infotech professionals worked together with all the modules. Now we have installed all the new hardware. Five departments have switched over to mySAP,” added Deb.
Andhra Paper Mills' distribution chain includes 85 dealers in 30 locations. It has a strong presence in southern and western India with 65 per cent of the domestic off takes.
