BlackBerrys is a prominent player in men's apparel business in India. It plans to foray into other apparel areas in a bid to become a complete family fashion brand. To meet the growing demand, the clothing giant decided to double its production by making fresh investments. In addition to the new plant in Gurgaon, it is upgrading its old factory by almost doubling the production capacity.

Need for ERP
To manage multiple product lines, Mohan Clothing felt the need for an integrated IT system. Plus it was facing a number of problems too:

  • Not able to meet order fulfillment deadlines.
  • Unable to manage the disparity in orders prioritization.
  • Unable to do advance planning for raw materials with higher lead times.
  • Unable to reschedule production capacity to accommodate unexpected yet critical orders.
  • Could not do online review and control of work in progress.
  • Could not keep track of accounts receivables and credit limit at the vendor level.
  • Having identified the key pain areas, the company decided to tackle the issue from an IT
  • perspective, and hence, opted for an ERP from Ramco Systems.

Solution
Mohan Clothing deployed the discrete production system of Ramco enterprise suite, including HR and maintenance modules. A unique feature of the solution was the development of a new "sampling module" that was integrated with the base product. Other features included:

Order forecasting: Performance indicators relevant to respective business divisions such as order location, shipping location, regions, and time period.

Production forecasting

Monthly plan split into weekly and quarterly buckets. This bucket-wise planning enhances the resource and capacity allocation process.

Sales orders

Allows to carry out effectively the critical activities that come on receipt of a customer order.

Unplanned orders

This helps Mohan Clothing accommodate unplanned orders into its production schedule.

Manufacturing/capacity resource planning

It broadly deals with utilizing the plant capacity and available resources in an optimal manner to effectively cater to the demand.

Other modules deployed include scheduling and rescheduling of orders, online work-in-progress review, and tracking accounts receivables and credit limits.
