deliveries a day during the busiest days of the holiday season.

In a thank-you e-mail sent this week to amazon.de clients, managing director

Philipp Humm said: "Overall we're looking back on a very successful

year."

Humm said the expansion of product offering to include electronic goods and

photographic equipment had lifted sales. Many leading Internet retailers have

reported strong growth in Christmas sales this year, boosted by hefty discounts

on brand name products.

Yahoo! Inc, the number two web retail destination, which is a platform for

more than 10,000 online shops, reported an 86 percent rise in sales between

November 23 and December 24. Analysts say that lower overall prices have been

offset by increased sales.
