AMSTERDAM: Global sales of semiconductors were $12.22 billion in January, up 22 percent against the same month a year earlier and down 2.4 percent against December. Sales grew strongest in Asia Pacific and Japan, by 33 and 34 percent respectively, with Europe growing 16 percent and the Americas by just 3 percent, the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics said.
Chip sales are usually sluggish compared with previous months in December and January after the run-up to the holidays season when electronics makers need chips for their devices.
