According to media reports a notice in this regard has already been issued to Swamy by Karti's CA K. Balachandran.

Swamy had yesterday alleged that Karti benefited from Chidambaram's position as Finance Minister to earn huge profits during the sale of Aircel, which the former sanctioned in 2006, said an NDTV report.

He added that the CBI should include Chidambaram and Karti in its investigation on the sale of telecom group Aircel to Malaysia-based Maxis.

Swamy, however, said in a statement that the threat of defamation case is ''laughable''.

"A company can't sue me ...the allegations are against Karti,'' he added.

Karti could not be reached for comment as he is currently not in India.
