In a statement, William Elmore, chairman of the board of XMOS Semiconductor and co-founder of Foundation Capital, claimed that the company is “transforming” the electronics industry with a highly innovative type of programmable silicon which allows digital systems to be defined entirely in standard, high-level software and that Charles Cotton is the “ideal leader to take XMOS Semiconductor forward.”

The professional experience of Charles Cotton includes having served as executive chairman of GlobespanVirata, and also as CEO of Virata Corporation before it merged with Globespan. Charles Cotton is at present a director of Four Semiconductor, based in California, the United States.

He is also a director of Cambridge Enterprise, the University of Cambridge’s organisation that is responsible for spin-outs, consulting activities, and licensing.
