The Detailed Project Report (DPR) was cleared by the Ministry of Information Technology (IT) and communication. This will facilitate the government to offer various civic services like payment of water and electricity bills online.

"It will help in better delivery of administrative services," said the officials in the IT department of the administration.

Following the clearance of the DPR, the next step of the government will be to establish the hardware infrastructure in various departments of the government. A citizens' portal will also be launched through which people can subscribe to the government services.

"The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MICT) has cleared the DPR recently. We need to create the necessary infrastructure to launch the e-governance program," said Tanvi Garg, Director IT, UT administration.

Setting up the hardware infrastructure in the different government departments would cost nearly Rs. 7 crore whereas setting up the portal would cost Rs. 6 crore. The portal will have to be developed as per government specifications and so that it is not hacked by people, as per officials. "The portal should satisfy the government's testing and quality control norms," said an official.

"In order to enable the services that involve the payment of money we will have to take the services of different banks. For this we will sign up with a third party. For enabling the services we will have to set up an e-payment gateway as well," said an official.
