M Akhaya, Director of State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) said, "Offices of DSP/SDPO, SP, DIG and DG would also be connected through the CCTNS." Akhaya, who is the nodal officer of the project also said, the project taken up under National e-Governance Project (NeGP), is expected to be completed in September next year.

The pilot project in Angul district and state capital Bhubaneswar (which covers 46 police stations) is likely to be completed next month. The CCTNS project will help in the investigation of crimes and tracking of criminals. It will also keep a record of complaints of the people, fingerprints of criminals and will also facilitate the verification process of passports.

"The people will not need to go to the police station to lodge FIR. They can file the complaint online after implementation of the project," Akhaya said. Through CCTNS, complainants can also know about the progress of the police investigation. About 14,000 police stations and 6,000 higher police offices across the country will be networked in the system which will help trace criminals.
