Stating that the image-press range will have the capacity for short-runs with 10,000 paper capacity, Datta said all the features which have been an obstacle for such printers with other competitors have been negated.

“The key features will be that the speed does not vary on the media being used for printing, and it can handle 13’ X 19.2’ paper size,” he said.

Datta said that Canon’s foray was marked by the potential for imaging printers for the pre-press industry estimated at $ 17 billion by 2010 and the growth in the segment being 55 per cent in 2005 alone.

“We are heavily investing in the segment, especially on the people and training for targeting the pre-press segment,” he added.
