The NPD report measures year-to-date sales of all consumer security suites in the marketplace.

"Achieving second place status in security suite sales after just one year on the market is extremely gratifying," said George Kafkarkou, senior vice president of worldwide commercial sales and strategy for CA. "As we roll out our 2007 line of consumer software, we're confident that our robust threat identification capabilities, intuitive user interface and lower resource requirements will continue to draw consumers to experience the CA brand."

In the sales period from January to September 2006, more than 400,000 units of the CA Internet Security Suite were sold in the retail and commercial channels. In the commercial channel alone, which includes resellers, Internet Service Providers, system builders and integrators, CA ranked number one in units sold, with 48.4 per cent of the unit volume share among suite vendors, a CA statement said.

An earlier NPD report released in July 2006 reported that CA suite revenues for the combined commercial and retail channels were the second highest among software publishers in the second quarter of 2006. The same report also found that sales revenue of CA's suite jumped more than 360 per cent in the first half of 2006 making it the fastest growing suite by revenue among the top four publishers as compared to the same period in 2005.
