BSNL to upgrade infrastructure in Orissa

BHUBANESHWAR: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is planning to invest Rs 3,000 crore in next three years to upgrade its infrastructure in Orissa. This is a part of the company's countrywide expansion plans, informed its finance director SD Saxena.

"We plan to add 7.25 lakh fresh cellular connection during the current financial year in addition to its existing 2.93 lakh cellular lines in the state. The corporation has at present 50 million lines (41 million fixed and nine million cellular lines) in the country and we plan to increase this to 120 million connections by March 2008," he added.

He further informed that the budget for the entire expansion plans in the country is estimated at Rs 60,000 crore.

"This is the target given to us by the Minister of IT and Telecommunications and a major thrust will be given on expanding our cellular base," Saxena told media persons.
