Das is currently the director (Human Resources Development) in the telecom PSU.

"After a good old journey of more than three decades, this is the best form of reward I can seek for my career. I am privileged and humbled to occupy the post of CMD. A great challenge lies ahead of us and I am sure we will meet every challenge with determination," said Das, after BSNL announced his appointment.

Before joining BSNL as director of human resources development in 2007, Das was working as the chief general manager of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited at Mumbai.

A six-member search-cum-selection committee was constituted for the appointment of the BSNL CMD.

With over 71.68 million subscribers, BSNL currently is the largest wireline service provider in India. The telecom major had posted a loss of Rs.1823 crore in the financial year 2009-10.
