According to R K Agarwal, BSNL’s director — Consumer Mobility, subscribers of BSNL will get the facility of the fixed mobile convergence that will provide a better user experience and convenience with full connectivity.

“BSNL will launch its fixed mobile convergence facility to its subscribers once the mobile number portability (MNP) comes into effect,” Agarwal said, on the sidelines of 3G conference in Mumbai recently.

The fixed mobile convergence (FMC) is a form of infrastructure technology and network based service that supports and connects both the mobile/cellular access and fixed/land line telephony via a single telecommunication network base. In FMC, a single device can connect through and be switched between wired and wireless networks.

However, for availing the FMC facility, the user will require a specialized handset or phone with a dual mode to support both the mobile and landline telephony network access.

Moreover, Agarwal pointed out that BSNL, which is the first telco to provide 3G services in India, is ready with the infrastructure needed to roll out MNP.
