BSNL employees on two-day strike

NEW DELHI, INDIA: The two-day nation-wide strike by the major employees unions of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has reportedly hit the services across the country.

The strike has been organised under the joint auspices of the United Forum of BSNL Unions, BSNL Employees Union, Telecom Employees Progressive Union, All India Backward Class Telecom Employees Sanghatan, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Employees Welfare Association of BSNL, Bahujan Trade Union of BSNL and Sanchar Nigam Association of Telecom Technical Assistants.

The unions have various demands including wage revision, implementation of promotion policy and absorption of officers on deputation.

According to the BSNL Employees Union General Secretary V.A.N. Namboodiri, 1.5 lakh non-executive employees are on strike demanding a five year periodicity for wage revision with full fitments benefit.

Though there are reports of service disruption, BSNL CMD Kuldeep Goyal said that enough precautions have been taken to ensure that the subscribers do not face any disruption in services, either mobile or land line.
