Broadband players to be fined Rs 10 lakh for non-compliance

BANGALORE, INDIA: Telecom service providers are liable to cough up to Rs 10 lakh if a compliance report, on the quality of its broadband service, furnished by them turns out to be false, as per Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

TRAI released 'Quality of Service of Broadband Service (Amendment) Regulations, 2012', which prescribes financial disincentives on the service providers for failure to meet the prescribed quality of service (QoS) benchmarks for broadband services.

Moreover, these regulations also prescribe financial disincentive on broadband service providers for non-compliance with the benchmark at a rate not exceeding Rs. 50,000 for the first non-compliance and Rs. 1,00,000 for subsequent non-compliance of the benchmarks.
