The goal is to reduce Blue Coat product waste destined for landfills by as much as 90 per cent, as well as to generate cost savings. It is projected that proceeds from the recycling and reuse program would not only cover the costs of the service, but could generate up to $750,000 annually in additional operational savings, said a press release.

“Blue Coat is committed to environmental leadership, through reducing our carbon footprint, limiting the consumption of natural resources and significantly reducing landfill waste,” said Dave Cox, senior vice president of operations, Blue Coat Systems.

He added that the new Blue Coat Product Recycling Service would substantially reduce materials going into landfill, makes disposal issues convenient for customers and create a larger supply of spare parts and reduces their operational costs.

The Blue Coat Product Recycling Service is an integral component of the company's BluePlanet initiative, which is designed to reduce the company's environmental impact, save operational costs and educate employees to decrease their own carbon-footprints and resource consumption.

This innovative recycling service resulted from an employee suggestion, reflecting the successful educational and collaborative nature of the BluePlanet program, the release added.
