B'lore international airport on schedule

BANGALORE: The proposed International airport coming up at Devanahalli on the city outskirts will be completed on time and the flight operations would begin after 45 months, according to PGR Sindhia, Minister for Large and Medium Industries, Small Scale Industries and Infrastructure, Karnataka.

Announcing this at the launching of Bangalore IT.Com ­ 2004, the minister assured the IT captains that Bangalore would provide direct international flights to several global destinations.

He reiterated that the government is fully committed to the orderly growth of the city in tune with the requirements of the IT sector. The government is taking several positive steps maintain the growth and its position in the IT industry. He is of the view that the international airport would definitely facelift the IT industry in Karnataka.

He said the government has taken up several infrastructure initiatives in order to support the industry in order to maintain its numero uno position in the country. "We are currently number 4 position globally. With these facilities, we aim to become the globally number 1 city in IT," said the beaming minister.
