BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 now in India

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Smartphone major Research In Motion (RIM), the maker of BlackBerry devices, today unveiled PlayBook OS 2.0. With a set of features to deliver superior tablet experience, the new OS is available for download.

The company bets high on this release and said that they are expecting consumers to catch OS update in a big way. The OS 2.0 promises advanced messaging experience, graphics optimization and document management.

David J Smith, SVP- Mobile Computing at RIM, said that the PlayBook OS 2.0 introduces a wide variety of new communications and productivity enhancements in addition to expanded application and content support.

The new feature-rich PlayBook OS 2.0 facilitates integrated email client with unified inbox, social media integration with contact and calendar and enhances browsing experience with WebKit technology. It also has embedded ability to run Android applications.

RIM India’s carrier product manager Ranjan Moses said that PlayBook OS 2.0 offers seamless contact merging as well as real multi-tasking, wherein users can switch back to other applications. “With BlackBerry Bridge application, the users can connect with BlackBerry smartphone too and browse,” Moses said.

The company has also introduced BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, although the general availability has been planned for March. This release, combined with mobile device management capabilities for iOS and Android devices include support for enterprise.
