BANGALORE: Bharti Tele-Ventures, India's leading private telecommunications

services providers, has selected HP's OpenView Operations Support Systems (OSS)

to enable unified, end-to-end visibility, greater process automation,

flexibility and scalability in its network infrastructure. HP OpenView OSS

allows service providers to streamline the management of fixed and wireless

networks, assure service levels for

customers and mediate all kinds of usage data for billing systems.

Bharati Tele-Ventures shared its implementation of HP's OpenView Operations
Support Systems (OSS) at 'The HP OpenView OSS Insight Days ' held in Beijing,

China earlier this week. This annual two-day forum brought together

decision-makers from Asia Pacific's key service providers, and showcased how HP

OpenView OSS allows services providers to achieve agility in today's challenging

telecommunications landscape.

Key issues like industry consolidation, creation of new business units and
introduction of new infrastructures leading to many service providers

developing overlapping network operations activities over time, multiple network
operations centers are in place for different services or

infrastructure types such as IT, IP and telecom equipment were disused at the
'OSS Insight Days'. The above-mentioned factors add cost and

inefficiencies to the operations of the network and services and make ensuring
service quality a challenge.

This was the case at Bharti Tele-Ventures. The company was faced with the
challenge of managing a multi-technology; multi-vendor network managed in

regional operations centers.  As Bharti's customer base continues to expand

rapidly, the company also wants to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.

Bharti's vision for its integrated network was to have a centralized Network
Operations Center (NOC), which would provide a common infrastructure management

environment across the entire organization and infrastructure. Bharti's network

infrastructure consists primarily of SDH/DWDM; Voice switching, ATM, Frame Relay

and MPLS/IPVPN. The new NOC environment was built in conjunction with HP and

ensures a homogeneous view of this entire network, improved operational

efficiency, quicker problem resolution and

greater customer satisfaction.

With HP OSS solutions, the company now has a unified, end-to-end view of the
network infrastructure as well as customer services. This has enabled Bharti to

respond quickly to network problems by reducing manual processes and provides

the scalability and flexibility to integrate new network elements into the

network as and when needed; ultimately helping reduce network operating costs.

The implementation of HP OpenView OSS solution is helping Bharti achieve better

operational efficiencies and serve its customer's better. Bharti is today, also

much more customer oriented in the operations center since we have a single

point of contact for all services and a real-time view of the state of

end-to-end customer services.

The systems Bharti implemented consists of the following components:

* OpenView TeMIP for effective alarm surveillance

* OpenView Network Node Manager to enable auto-forwarding of alarms as they
happen

* OpenView Service Desk to manage in-coming alarms

* OpenView Performance Insight to manage the performance of the data-carrying
network service (MPLS)
