ThinkPads have mainly been business class notebooks: sturdy, reliable and staid workhorses. Understanding the need of various other power users, Lenovo has launched the T60p ThinkPad, for business with a performance twist. It looks different when you compare it to other ThinkPads. Although, widescreen was introduced in the T series, this one is probably the sleekest of all wide screens in the ThinkPad range. If you are likely to use graphics-intensive applications in addition to your day-to-day office applications, you need look no further. With an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7600 (2.33 GHz), 1 GB RAM and an ATI mobility Radeon X1300 graphics card, you’ll never be wanting in performance. Proof of this comes via the PC Mark score of 4870, even higher than Asus Lamborghini VX1
ThinkPads have also been known for security features – this one is no different. Fingerprint reader and hard drive shock protection are standard. It has support for TPM chip protection as well along with the traditional ThinkVantage option, which allows you to restore the entire OS or a single file in case of a mishap. Connectivity options abound like Wi-Fi, Gigabyte connectivity, Bluetooth etc. It also gives great battery life of about five and a half hours long, thanks to the 9-cell Li-ion battery.
Thanks to dedicated graphics, occasional gaming is easily handled, but performance in some real graphically challenging games like STALKER wasn’t that satisfactory. We’ve seen slightly better performance from the Asus F3J (with NVIDIA GoForce 7300 graphics). But dedicated graphics does help tremendously to improve the overall performance. The inclusion of a webcam, a Firewire port and a DVI port would have made it just perfect.
