NEW DELHI, INDIA: The central government has lifted the ban on prepaid mobile phones in Jammu and Kashmir, a home ministry official said on Thursday.
The ban was imposed last year after the government cited security reasons in the terror-riven state.
"We have asked for stringent identity check of prepaid mobile subscribers after which telecom operators can issue prepaid SIM cards," said the official.
As per the revised guidelines, existing pre-paid subscribers shall be allowed the facility of recharge on completion of re-verification. The mobile service providers are required to adhere to these revised guidelines scrupulously with immediate effect, DoT said in a statement.
