Ballmer meets Manmohan Singh, Maran

NEW DELHI: On the first day of his three-day India visit, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer met Indian prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh and other top officials here.

In a meeting with Communications and IT minister Dayanidhi Maran, he discussed about the current scenario in the Indian IT industry, the Indian IT user community and mobility trends among others.

They also discussed the need for additional innovation to drive the PC growth in India.

In the afternoon, he attended a press conference announcing a broad scale mobile services alliance in India along with Hutchison Essar.

He then went on to attend the Microsoft event on "Bridging the Two Indias," which was addressed by the President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

The event also brought together eminent personalities like chairman of the board of Infosys NR Narayan Murthy and Dr Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Chennai to discuss the creation and adoption of local technology solutions to create a digitally inclusive society.

On Thursday, Ballmer would travel to Mumbai, where he is scheduled meet with Indian business leaders. He would be giving the keynote at IndiMix - an event on the future of the web and Microsoft's strategy for the web.

In the evening he would be addressing a function organized by a leading financial daily. He also plans to visit Microsoft's research center in Hyderabad on Friday.
