Await two Lava smartphones in 2012

NEW DELHI, INDIA: As the Smartphone market hots up, the Indian mobile device major, Lava

said that it will come up with two new feature-rich models during the first half of 2012.

Speaking to CIOL, S N Rai, co-founder and director of Lava International, said that they are planning to introduce two new smartphones next year. “These devices will be powered with 1.5Ghz chipsets,” he added.

Lava is banking on Android-based OS devices. With a focus on youth-centric content genre, the new device portfolio would have localized applications.

The company is contemplating a price of $100 and $500 respectively for new smartphone devices, informed Rai. Lava didn’t reveal the exact pricing and timeline though but said that both new models will be announced early next year.

Lava is currently carrying out R&D activities for its smartphone segment. "We are working on software development, 3G and Android in our Bangalore facility," the company said.

Started in June 2009, the company has also forayed into dongles and routers. It has recently launched a Smartphone, Lava S12.
