NEW DELHI: Commercial vehicles major and Hinduja Group flagship, Ashok
Leyland, has forayed into e-commerce by launching two interactive Internet
initiatives–one for exports and the other for domestic parts operations.
The e-commerce site for exports enables customers to view product models and
their technical specifications and place orders for a configuration of their
choice with the nearest dealer, who can be located with the help of a search
engine. Ashok Leyland responds to the order, which is forwarded online by the
dealer, by quoting the price. The dealer then confirms the order by opening a
LC. The site also facilitates tracking of the order by the dealer. After the
purchase, customers can post performance feedback for necessary action by the
dealer whose warranty claims are posted on the site for validation and
reimbursement.
The parts Web site improves customer service levels in Ashok Leyland's parts
operations involving over 40,000 parts and a vehicle population spread
throughout the country. Information on Leyparts–the genuine Ashok Leyland
parts range–and all-India sales, service and parts network can be obtained
with a search engine. A customer who logs in can search and identify the
required part by the part number or part description. There is also a
user-friendly alternative, wherein he can identify the part if he knows his
vehicle model. A separate search engine helps identify the parts dealer who is
located nearest to him, allowing placement of order. The dealer in turn places
the order on the nearest Ashok Leyland Warehouse. The site also has a section on
customer education that explains how to distinguish a genuine Ashok Leyland
spare part with the help of its distinct packaging design and hologram.
