Artech unveils Linux version of Akshar Naveen

NEW DELHI: Artech India (formerly Softek Pvt. Ltd) has unveiled Akshar Naveen on Linux (ANL) at LinuxAsia 2006, Asia's premier Open Source conference and exposition, which is being held in New Delhi.

ANL supports all features of Akshar Naveen on Windows and also comes equipped with an inbuilt database and open document format (ODF) support.

Other key features on ANL include Unicode compliance, enhanced dictionary in Unicode format, email facility, three different keyboard settings, Indian language web publishing, etc. AFL also supports multilingual computing in English, Hindi, Bangla, Gujrati and Punjabi and is portable across various flavors of Linux.

Artech India country head and senior VP Yogendra Tripathi said, “We would also be making available this product on the web. As of now we have not yet worked out a pricing strategy. Akshar is very strong in the government sector and with the Linux version we would be targeting insurance and banking sector which operate on Unix right now.”

The company, which is based in North India, is planning to expand its footprint further in the southern and eastern part of India. In the last three-four months, the company has opened offices in Kolkata and Pune and has also set up a facility in Bangalore. Artech is also planning to set up a channel network.

Tripathi added that currently our products are available in five Indian languages. In the next three- four months we would make it available in 12 Indian languages and subsequently in all Indian languages.
