HYDERABAD: Hyderabad based ARM Ltd. has joined hands with US based Iospan to
introduce its broadband wireless access product for the Indian sub-continent.
The product christened - AirBurst system is a point-to-multipoint (P2MP),
broadband wireless access (BWA) network that provides a reference solution for
network operators wishing to deliver Internet access and voice services to
residential and business customers.
ARM will develop and implement the wireless solutions for the carriers in the
Indian sub-continent. "We are going to manufacture the consumer premises
equipment (CPE) for the Indian market, keeping in mind the price factor. We are
going to take the technology from Iospan and develop the required and affordable
technology for the Indian customer. We are already talking to the top-most
carriers in the country for the deployment of this product and the trials in
Hyderabad will start from April 2002," said, ARM Ltd. managing director,
Sumanth Paturu.
The system is based upon Multiple input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology and
the system supports a variety of network architectures. AirBurst is designed to
deliver solutions to address the fundamental challenges that have traditionally
been barriers to wide deployment of BWA systems. "Specifically this system
is designed from the ground-up to solve non-line-of-sight (non-LOS) and
scalability issues typically associated with the last mile wireless broadband
systems," said Iospan managing director, A J Paulraj.
In a successful BWA service offering, customer demand will drive capacity
requirements and demands for scalability. As a network operator's customer base
grows, the Airburst solutions will scale easily with the addition of new cell
sites.
