Are you ready for this Hackathon?

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Journalism and technology has no paradoxical association today. As the Internet is gaining prominence driven by Web 2.0 applications, the news rooms are evolving their strategies to push geographical barriers and cross-cultural boundaries.

New media pure play is in. Now the aggregators, coders and developers- traditionally the backroom guys, are rewriting the stories and transforming the editorial activities. Blogging, influenced by social media, is undergoing renaissance too. WordPress' recent introduction of Elvin version 3.5- a blog management software (named after after jazz drummer Elvin Jones), is a testimony to it.

With a paradigm shift in information dissimulation, Hacks/Hackers (HH) New Delhi- a local chapter of the international organization, engaged a network of more than 100 journalists (hacks) and technologists (hackers). The chapter plans a gala Hackathon sometime in January 2013.

Google Developers Group (GDG) formerly known as New Delhi Google Technology User Group (GTUG), is however developing Google Android, Mobile OS, AppEngine and ToolKit.UI developer Shreya Malhotra- a member of Hack/Hackers community said that their objective is to leverage technology for social change.

Speaking to CIOL, co-founder of the HH India arm, Anika Gupta said that Web 2.0 can't be separated from news diffusion in future, and it would become a primary source for information."Technological innovation is an ongoing process. Tool that can facilitate the ability to adapt and learn new media and and transform storytelling, will be mainstay," she feels.

"We are still sorting out the details for Hackathon," Gupta informed. The idea, she said, is to rope in multi-specialty teams together that include journalists, coders, developers and designers, to ponder upon how relevant apps can be created to strengthen information-driven society.
