ArcSight ESM 5.0 is the fifth generation of the core analysis engine of the ArcSight platform, and is the market-share leader in the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) market. Caccia said that the new features make it easier for other people to do things with the product. This includes tools that do analysis of user behavior, since monitoring user accounts has become more important to customers.

"ESM 5.0 also adds new industry specific field sets," he added. "These are new custom fields, which didn't exist before. They would have to shove fields into other fields. This kind of thing reflects the evolution of the market, with customers wanting to move beyond traditional SIEM. Two years ago, nobody was asking for this, but they are now."

A third addition is a new set of web services, designed to make it easier for third party BI tools to be used on ArcSight.

"It was possible before to use them before, but it wasn't super easy," Caccia said.
