ARC, Toshiba to develop next-gen processor

SAN JOSE, USA & ALBANS, ENGLAND: ARC International has extended the collaboration with Toshiba that begun in 2006 to develop configurable multi-processor technology. As part of the agreement, Toshiba has extended their license for the ARChitect Processor Configurator, which offers a comprehensive set of design tools and resources to produce highly optimized processor designs.

Details of the new engagement and examples of real-world applications including Toshiba’s configurable solutions will be provided in an executive presentation by Toshiba at the Multicore Expo Conference in Silicon Valley on April 2nd, 2008.

Takashi Yoshimori, Technology Executive for system-on-chip design of Toshiba’s Semiconductor Company, said: “We are pleased with the ongoing collaboration and joint development work with ARC. This new agreement represents the next phase of the Toshiba and ARC relationship and underscores the importance that configurability plays in the development of Toshiba’s SoCs for audio and video applications.”

Bill Jackson, ARC’s vice president of marketing, said: “Using configurable multicore technologies, Toshiba and ARC together are fueling the advancement of next-generation multimedia solutions. The deepening partnership with Toshiba is a testament to the effectiveness of our joint efforts, and ARC looks forward to extending the companies’ leadership in consumer electronics.”
