NEW YORK, USA: In an attempt to overturn what would be one of the biggest patent damages awards ever, potentially costing it over $625 million, Apple has asked a court to reconsider an impending decision.

On Friday, a federal jury in Tyler, Texas found it guilty of infringing four patents belonging to a company called Mirror Worlds, covering document display techniques used on the iPod, iPhone and Mac computers. In the lawsuit dated back to 2008, Mirror Worlds alleged that Apple had infringed on four of its patents.

The jury that heard the case concluded that three patents had been infringed, and awarded $208.5 million for each one. But Apple, through an emergency motion filed on Sunday, is asking the judge to delay a final decision on two of the patents, claiming there are still unresolved issues. If the court agrees damages will be reduced to $208.5 million.

Apple is arguing that it would be wrong for the jury to force it to pay three separate fines for the infringements, which are related in part to the way files are displayed on the company's popular tech devices.
