Apple iOS to dominate SMB market: Intermedia

Mobile devices running Apple's iOS operating system continue to dominate the small and medium-sized business (SMB) market according to Intermedia, a global leader in cloud services and the largest Microsoft hosted Exchange provider.

For the last three months of available data (September through November 2012), Apple's iOS operating system was the clear leader in new device activations among Intermedia SMBs with 68.2 percent of all mobile device activations, said a press release.

Google's Android operating system followed Apple with 25.1 percent, while BlackBerry ranked third with 4.1 percent, and Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system ranked fourth with 2.6 percent.

"Our customers are using their smartphones and tablets like never before," said Michael Gold, president, Intermedia.

"For example, they are using Hosted PBX to route calls to their mobile devices; they can read voicemails as emails while in a meeting; and they can access their data via Cloud Server."

Just as importantly, admins can log into the HostPilot® Mobile App and manage their accounts without being tied to the office.

"With their business communications in a secure, business-grade cloud, users have anywhere, anytime mobile access to their messaging, contacts, calendars, files, and applications," added Gold.

Intermedia reviewed the number of smartphones its customers activated to sync their email, contacts, and calendars with Intermedia's business solutions.
