Apex to launch 56X CD-ROM drive

CHENNAI: Apex Computers Pvt. Ltd. has announced plans to launch Apex Super 56X and 52X CD-ROM drives. According to the firm, the 56X CD-ROM drive, which is the first of its kind in India, will have special features such as low CPU utilization, power consumption, less than 100ms access time, compatibility with MPC level 2&3 and emergency manual eject.





Apex Super 56X CD-ROM drive also offers up to 8400K bytes per sec data transfer rate and has an easy to install storage solution. This drive supports audio CD, CD-ROM, Photo CD, Video CD, CD Plus, I-TRAX CD, CD-RW, compatible with Windows 2000/NT/98/95/3.x, MS-DOS, OS/2 Warp, supports PlO mode 4, and Ultra DMA.

"The Apex CD-ROM series are reliable, high performance storage solution that conform to enhanced IDE interface," said Apex Computers Private Limited MD, P S Thiagarajan. The Apex Super 56X and 52X CD-ROM drives are manufactured in the company's OEM setup at Taiwan.

And first shipments of these CD-ROM drives are expected to arrive during the second week of April, this year. The retail prices of Apex 56X and 52X CD-ROM drives are Rs 2,500 and Rs 2,000, respectively. "We will be introducing Apex Super CD-RW and DVD drives by mid-May this year," said Thiagarajan.

The company also announced its plans to discontinue the manufacturing of Apex Super 50X CD-ROM drive. Apex is also planning shortly to introduce networking products, which would include hubs, switches and routers, into the company's product portfolio.
