Android came first before iPhone: Schmidt

BANGALORE, INDIA: Well, its a good news for all the Android users and may disappoint those who are hardened fans of Apple products.

Search engine giant Google executive chairman, Eric Schmidt recently said that, it was Google which started the development of Android operating system, earlier than Apple unveiled their first Apple iOS based iPhone.

He also made it clear, which said,  "Android operating system is Google invention and it is not a ripoff of Apple's iOS as earlier claimed by the founder of Apple, Steve Jobs.”

It may be noted that Steve Jobs mentioned in his biography, "I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go to thermonuclear war on this."

"Most people would agree that Google is a great innovator, and I would also point out that the Android efforts started before the iPhone efforts. And that's all I have to say," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Schmidt, as saying.

However, in a latest report on "Mobile Applications Market Data" from ABI Research finds that in Q2 2011, Android overtook iOS to become the market share leader in mobile application downloads.

Android was founded by Andy Rubin in 2003, which was later bought by Google in 2005. In 2007, Google launched their first Android based operating system.
