AMD launches 1st triple-core Athlon chips

BENGALURU, INDIA: AMD announced several new AMD Athlon II processors, which, it claimed, offer outstanding performance and low power consumption, while enabling sleek desktop PC designs and attractive price points.

In addition to the standard power processors, the full AMD Athlon II processor family now delivers high-performance, low-power dual-, triple- and quad-core processors to meet a range of computing needs.

This variety and value enables OEMs and system builders to develop compelling PC solutions that address the market shift to power efficient, innovative PC designs optimized for Windows 7.1. The processors run at speeds between 2.2GHz and 2.9GHz and draw up to 95 Watts of power.

AMD said the chips are designed to go into desktops and new PC form factors including all-in-one and small desktops. Users will be able to see 3D graphics on PCs powered by the new processors.

ATI Radeon HD 5700 series

AMD also unveiled the ATI Radeon HD 5770 and ATI Radeon HD 5750 graphics cards, adding two more models to the world’s first and only suite of graphics cards to fully support Microsoft Direct X 11 technology and ATI Eyefinity multi-monitor support.

With the addition of the ATI Radeon HD 5700 series, AMD is providing PC gamers and multimedia enthusiasts with four great choices to fully enjoy the Microsoft Windows 7 experience.

Rick Bergman, Senior VP and GM—Products Group, AMD said, “Now, the ATI Radeon HD 5700 series takes the same great features like ATI Eyefinity and ATI Stream technology as well as full hardware support for all DirectX 11 features, and bundles them into products priced well below $200.”

ATI Radeon HD 5700 graphics cards deliver more than 1 TeraFLOPS of compute power, ensuring superior performance in the latest DirectX 11 games, as well as in DirectX 9, DirectX 10, DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL titles. With a powerful graphics core built on 40nm process technology and up to 800 stream processors, gamers can enjoy DirectX 11 games now.
