The chips combine microprocessors and graphics processing units, which have historically been separated.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the new products are expected to be the hub of announcements at the Consumer Elecronics Show by Santa Clara-based Intel and Sunnyvale-based AMD.

Chip makers Intel and Advanced Micro Devices each plan to announce at January's Consumer Electronics Show a "combination" chip which includes microprocessors that power PCs and graphics processing units.
