Users of the present generation Amazon Kindle have to go in for an external light to read in the dark. The front lighting in the new versions will overcome this limitation as it offers readers the freedom to read in the dark as well.

Apart from this, Amazon is also planning to launch a new Tablet during the holiday season this year. This new Tablet is expected to be named the new Kindle Fire (although not officially confirmed). It will reportedly have a bigger 8.9 inch diagonal display. With this, the new Kindle Fire is all set to rival the Apple iPad.

Barnes and Noble is the first to launch a glowing e-reader. Amazon's Kindle e-reader will be launched in the Touch 3G and Touch Wi-Fi variants. Despite the Kindle e-reader being front-illuminated, it is energy efficient as it doesn't require additional power (Apart from the standard power consumption).

The price of the new Kindle Fire and the new Kindle e-reader are expected to go up marginally, say sources at Amazon. The launch date of these new gadgets is also yet to be made official. But they are confirmed for a July launch.
