It should be noted that in 2013, IRCTC has tied up with Yebhi.com but the contract was withdrawn following complaints related to the quality of the items sold by Yebhi. Then in March 2015,  Amazon came in the picture, and IRCTC is earning revenue through a fixed annual fee and lead generation model.

So, when you are browsing the IRCTC website, the "Shop on" Amazon tab on the website redirects you to the Amazon’s homepage. This definitely helps Amazon to reach out to remote areas and smaller cities in India as well.

The IRCTC contract with Amazon will expire in June and it may renew its contract with Amazon or get a new partner onboard. Sources say that payments options through IRCTC’s e-wallets will also to available to users in the later stages.

While, it should be noted that, last week internet was ablaze with the news of India's largest e-commerce website IRCTC being hacked. There were many claims of data leaks and data vanishing. A Bengaluru-based cybersecurity startup Fallible had provided details on how exactly the data leak can easily happen on IRCTC website.

What led to all the speculation was the lead given to Maharashtra Cyber Cell regarding a CD containing phone numbers, date of birth and other such information of IRCTC users being sold for Rs 15,000 in the market.

However, there was an official declaration rejecting any such hack or leak taking place.
