Kindle will be celebrating its 10th anniversary next month. And to mark the occasion, Amazon has launched a new 7-inches waterproof Kindle Oasis.

The new e-reader has an aluminum back with a bigger seven-inch display, and the highest resolution so far. Even with those changes, it tapers to a 3.4-millimeter-thin design and weighs only 194 grams, which is 10 gms less than the Kindle Paperwhite.

The Oasis also features built-in Audible. This, however, doesn’t mean that you can listen to Audible from the Kindle itself -there are no speakers yet- but you can start an audiobook from the device and stream it over Bluetooth to a set of headphones or a speaker.

The resolution of the e-paper display is the same as its predecessor at 300 PPI, but it has a couple of extra LED lights now for a brighter, more even-looking display. And it also has ambient light sensors that adjust the brightness as per surroundings. There are physical page-turn buttons, plus the touchscreen page-turn option; Amazon says it’s worked on both the hardware and software side of things to make page-turning feel faster.

The new premium Kindle is the first to get waterproofing and promises around six weeks of power via the built-in battery. The new Oasis is up for pre-order today and starts shipping from October 31. Pricing starts at $249, with the LTE-enabled, 32GB version costing $100 extra.
