Well so all of you have heard enough about the new CEO of Google! In the limelight of Pichai,  we all missed out on the significant part when Larry Page, CEO announced that Google will now be owned by Alphabet!

So here is the deal. Google founders restructured their business and started the new bigger venture Alphabet. Under this umbrella, the founders will expand their business and strive for more emerging technologies and 'aspiring projects'.

Larry Page, CEO, Alphabet explained on the website, "What is Alphabet? Alphabet is mostly a collection of companies. The largest of which, of course, is Google. This newer Google is a bit slimmed down, with the companies that are pretty far afield of our main internet products contained in Alphabet instead. What do we mean by far afield? Good examples are our health efforts: Life Sciences (that works on the glucose-sensing contact lens), and Calico (focused on longevity). Fundamentally, we believe this allows us more management scale, as we can run things independently that aren’t very related."

Alphabet will not only confine to search or core Internet technologies, but will strive for building capabilities with IoT technology, bringing a whole new aspect.

Under the umbrella of Alphabet, the ventures included are:

  • Smart-thermostat maker Nest Labs
  • Biotech Calico which increases life span
  • Fiber speedens up Internet connections
  • Google X is not much specified but includes pilot projects and lipped projects
  • Sidewalk Labs which help to build tech modern cities
  • Google Capital is the investment arm
  • Google Ventures is the capital investment aspect

Google

Under Google it will include search, advertising, maps, YouTube and Android.

Interestingly Alphabet which is now the parent company will use .xyz instead of .com which will inevitably bring a massive change to the dominant .com business.

Currently, Alphabet does not have its own product or venture but we surely don't have to wait long to see it. Meanwhile just like Larry Page said, lets get used to the name!
