Airtel launches green data centre in Mumbai

Bharti Airtel has launched a green data centre in Mumbai.

The new data center is in addition to 7 data centres the comany already operates in India located in the National Capital Region, Bangalore, Chennai, Bhubaneshwar and Pune.

According to Airtel the facility has been designed to achieve 1.7-1.75 power usage effectiveness or PUE, a metric used to determine the energy efficiency of a data centre, making it one of the most energy efficient facilities in India.

A company release said the new data centre will enable the company to offer co-location, managed hosting, disaster recovery, remote infrastructure management, application and cloud computing services to small, medium and large enterprises across verticals in Mumbai.

The data centre has been jointly designed and commissioned with India's NetMagic Solutions Pvt Ltd and is carrier neutral.

"With the launch of this facility, Airtel takes another step in moving beyond its core connectivity services and into collocation, managed hosting services and bringing these services closer to our customers in Mumbai. It supports our drive to be the preferred IT&T provider delivering end to end solutions to our customers," said Drew Kelton, President - Airtel Business at Bharti Airtel.
