CIOL: Major technology investments at your enterprise?

Malav: Investments in two major areas

1. User productivity tools like business intelligence, enterprise project management and collaboration tools.

2. Data center optimization and management tools like server consolidation and virtualization using IBM Power and Blade Center servers, data center management tools viz, systems director and tivoli.

CIOL: Any overhauls of significant scale or value at your enterprise?

Malav: Our entire data center has been moved to a virtualised environment.

CIOL: What's your strategy for future?

Malav: Desktop virtualization and user productivity, including social media and BYOD (any device support infrastructure).

CIOL: Areas of interest from recent tech-breakthroughs?

Malav: Use of social media tools to increase user productivity.

CIOL: Advice to peers in terms of lessons, mistakes or challenges you experienced over past few years?

Malav: My advice to peers is that they should adopt matured technologies. Do not jump onto technology wagon just for the sake of it. And it is better you outsource non-core application.

CIOL: IT is as a competitive differentiator/innovator/business value centre at your organization - How?

Malav: IT is no more a differentiator rather it enables business functions. IT is a basic need of business and both business and IT have become indispensable nowadays. Therefore, for me, IT is a business value center.

CIOL: Anything else you feel worth sharing with us?

Malav: IT industry is fast changing. One should regularly update himself and innovate.
