SAN JOSE: Publishing software maker Adobe Systems Inc. on Monday unveiled
Acrobat 5.0, the latest update of its popular document-sharing software, which
is slated to be shipped in mid-April.
Acrobat 5.0 offers beefed-up security and collaboration, as well as features
that benefit people with disabilities. The new software also makes it easier to
pull images and information from Web sites and PDF files for reuse in other
mediums. Adobe expects to ship the new version in mid-April, Richard Brown,
product manager of Adobe's ePaper solutions group, said.
Acrobat, that is one of Adobe's best-selling products, enables people to send
and receive documents while preserving their original format. That means
reports, presentations or sample layouts for magazines and catalogs will look
the same to the recipient as they did to the sender.
The current version of Acrobat has been on the market about two years and
contributes the majority of revenue for Adobe's ePaper business, which posted 60
per cent year-over-year revenue growth in Adobe's fiscal fourth-quarter ended
December 1.
