MUMBAI: Allied Computer Industries (ACi) India Pvt. Ltd., has launched ACi
Supersonic, which is the fastest notebook computers in the world. The notebook
houses a PIII 1 GHz processor. Supersonic's competitive edge mainly lies in
three factors - 1 GHz processor, CD writing and FSB, said ACi managing director
Hirji Patel.
With the product gaining wide popularity after its launch in the UK this
January, the company now plans to increase the production of Supersonic
notebooks by introducing additional voice mail feature, he said. The company has
set a target to sell over 5,000 units this year in India. "We are expanding
our channels by appointing new distributors and setting up new offices in India
to make our presence felt in the country."
While in India, ACi is looking for high volumes in sales and low profit, the
strategy adopted in UK is different. There, the focus is on high profit and low
volume, says Hirji. He also debunked the contention that the Supersonic was
placed in a higher price ranger of Rs 1.8 lakh. "You can't get an 850 MHz
for this price. Going by standard market price, the price of Supersonic should
have been ideally placed somewhere between Rs 2.2 and Rs 2.5 lakh, he said.
The notebook, ideal for high-end applications like graphics utilities,
multimedia and Web applications, is mainly targeted at the corporate sector and
software developers. Some of the product's unique features include a 14.1-inch
TFT Screen for a wider view, 128 MB memory that can be upgraded to 512MB, 8 MB
video RAM, vast storage space of 20 GB and an in-built advanced fax modem and
Ethernet and CD writer. It also has full duplex support for 3D-surround sound, a
sound volume controlled thumb wheel, e-mail and Internet hot keys.
