Acer reduces entry-level PC price to Rs 9,999

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Acer, the world’s third largest PC brand, today announced that it has it has revised the price of its entry-level desktop, the EL-1600, to Rs. 9,999 across the country with immediate effect.

The step has been taken to break down the barriers between people and technology in India, said a press release.

Based on a single-core processor - Intel Atom processor 230 - the Nettop when compared to the conventional desktop computers is smaller, lighter and affordable, all this while consuming just one-third the power of a conventional desktop, said a press release.

“The EL 1600 heralds the arrival of a much-needed computing solution that appeals to the larger audience with an astute combination of pricing and specs. We are confident that with the revision of prices, the EL 1600 will make a significant dent on the Indian PC market,” said S Rajendran, chief marketing officer, Acer India.

He added that the today the country has a PC penetration rate of just over 3 per cent. They believe that this offering would significantly help grow the overall market for PCs in India by offering the entry level PC user a no compromise, full-fledged performance machine at a previously unimaginable price.

 Acer said EL 1600 is one-third the size of a normal PC but a powerful performer with room for upgrades. A wealth of ports complements the machine for great connectivity and expansion and this desktop is best suited for first time users, it added.
