MUMBAI: The erstwhile VP, IT of Welspun group is now moving to newer pastures. Abhay A Karhade will be now at the helm of IT at SVKM Group, a Rs350 crore organization with deep roots in the education industry. He has joined as the Director IT of this group that has about 80 colleges all across India, including the noted Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies.

He has already outlined ambitious plans for the year ahead and from as much as he can share now, it appears a busy and action-packed 2010 for him.

Something that reflects his reason to take a turn on his career path. As he tells, “I respect Welspun a lot and it was a great experience to be with them. At this point of time I wanted to do something in the education area, and wanted to contribute in my own way. India is still behind its international counterparts in this space.”

He feels that smart IT and technology leverage, can make the industry more systematic and with better-placed processes. Use of technology is very much needed in this segment, in Karhade’s opinion.

He comes with ten years of SAP implementation experience, and has many pioneer moves to his credit.

As a group CIO, his area of action covered – specialist in Global IT deployments (IT Infrastructure, Applications, Security solutions, Communications setup, Unified communications) & Global SAP projects Implementations, rollouts, Group IT Management.

Karhade plans to take forward his experience and apply it to this sector in innovative ways. Looks like his forte in areas like Business Solutions ( SAP), EDI Based SCM, integrated retail systems implemented in oil and gas, textile, warehouse distribution and retail industry , in all ten implementations, as well as IT infrastructure deployments in multi-country environments ( USA, UK, Mexico, India ), including Green Field Projects; would find a new soil here, to propel the sector forward.
