Aakash-maker DataWind's VP to exit

NEW DELHI, INDIA: As DataWind's ambitious Aakash II commercial launch is round the corner, one of its senior officials, Vijendra K Gupta is leaving the organization.

As a VP, Gupta was spearheading sales and operations, and later assigned with the company's operators' relations role.

While confirming to CIOL, Gupta said that he has few options in hand; however, he declined to elaborate on his new task. He is yet to tender his resignation.

''Now, I am just gazing at options, as I have got some better opportunities,'' he informed. Gupta reluctantly said that his new role would be in a similar industry- a company that makes PCs.

''It's time to move on in life,'' he added. It's learnt that post Aakash debut, organizations were approaching him to take him on board to leverage his tablet PC expertise.

For the first time, DataWind official admitted that Aakash I encountered a technical flaw. ''It had technology issue, especially with the design part,'' Gupta admitted.

The commercial rollout of Aakash II aka UbiSlate 7 would be in March as stated, he informed. ''I stand by my words. Aakash II will come out this month,'' Gupta concluded.

With more than a decade of industry experience, Gupta served VSNL, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications in various capacities. He holds Accounts major from the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI).
