New Delhi: Business Objects, global business intelligence (BI) software company has announced the availability of Crystal Reports for Eclipse Professional. This release is further to Crystal Reports for Eclipse Basic edition, which was released in the month of August, this year and is available as a free download at http://www.businessobjects.com/eclipse .

The basic version of Crystal Reports provides a complete Java-based report design and deployment environment for application developers. Developers building applications in the Eclipse development environment can simply embed Crystal Reports into those applications. By making Crystal Reports available to the Eclipse community, Business Objects makes it easier for companies to create rich reporting solutions that help monitor and improve their business performance, says the official release from Business Objects.

Crystal Reports for Eclipse includes a brand new Java Report Designer built on the Eclipse framework using which Java Developers can create new Crystal Report files (or edit existing ones) directly within their IDE. Other features that will be available on installing the free download include:

  • POJO Data Source support 
  • Crystal Reports Web Project Wizard
  • Java Reporting Component facet
  • JSP Page wizard
  • Java User Function Library wizard
  • Deployment Assistance
  • Global Property Settings

The Professional edition, offers 5 times more throughput than the Basic runtime engine, two technical support incidents where support staff from Business Objects provide answers to development issues; and licensing for multi-server deployments. 

Crystal Reports for Eclipse Professional is available at $495 per server. Business Objects has also announced free copies of Crystal Reports for Eclipse Professional for developers registering for their Diamond Developer Conference to be held at San Francisco, California from November 5-8. The Professional Edition provides an easy interface to allow users to add their Professional keycodes to existing installs of Crystal Reports for Eclipse Basic. All existing applications built using the Basic edition can be upgraded to use the Professional engine with a single mouse click.

Basic version of Crystal Reports for Eclipse can be updated easily to the Professional edition using Eclipse's built-in Update Manager, utility.
