A shrink-wrapped parcel for Indian SMEs

BANGALORE, INDIA: The Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in India is a lucrative segment for any IT company in the world. With an increase in IT spending, IT players are now focusing on solutions that are easy to deploy while providing faster returns. Enterprise class solutions with quick deployments and less maintenance are now replacing the high-cost customized solutions.

Newgen Software Technologies - a provider of BPM, ECM, DMS, Workflow and Process Automation solutions - is no different from others. The company looks at India as a major market to sell its solutions, especially to the SME segment, which still remains largely untapped by the Indian IT firms.

Newgen feels that IT vendors need to educate and have proper communication channel in tier-II and tier-III cities, where entrepreneurs are not aware of the existing solutions that might solve their problems. In an interaction with CIOL, Manojit Majumdar, vice-president, Channels - WW, Newgen, talked about its business and growth plans.

CIOL: What are your offerings for SMEs?

Majumdar: Newgen's shrink-wrapped versions of our best-of-breed products, OmniDocs, OmniScan and SAP Image Enablement Solution in the ECM space, are some of our solutions for SMEs worldwide. OmniDocs is an Enterprise Document Management tool, while OmniScan is a Batch Scanning and Indexing solution.

The company also provides EDMS. It is an enterprise class product suite that has enabled banks, non-banking financial institutions, insurance firms, BPOs, healthcare organizations, government, telecom providers and shared service centers to manage their documents.

CIOL: How are the solutions different from that of large enterprises?

Majumdar: Newgen's shrink-wrapped version is more user-friendly, quick to deploy and requires less maintenance. It contains all the essential features of a product as per the requirements of SMEs with an option to customize in future.

Meanwhile, our solutions to large enterprises are customized as per their business size and requirements, which involves higher cost and long deployment time. Large enterprises have additional requirements, wherein additional services might be implemented over and above the product.

CIOL: What kind of opportunities do you see with your shrink-wrapped versions?

Majumdar: Newgen targets SMEs where the processes are done manually (a lot of paper work) and the need of digitization is essential. We see a tremendous opportunity in banking, insurance, BPOs, manufacturing, education and government sectors.

CIOL: What role do SIs play in selling these products?

Majumdar: Newgen currently has strategic partnerships with top SIs worldwide. Newgen's process automation solutions combined with SIs' advanced technology platforms and infrastructure provides the critical tools to improve business cycle times, productivity standards and compliance procedures for achieving operational excellence.
